GIOD - Relation to Other CERN Activities
GIOD work not meant to be specific to any one LHC experiment, but
- Caltech is a CMS collaborating institute, and the host institute for the Project
- Hewlett Packards interest in the Project is in large applications that use Caltech Exemplar
- There is thus a strong focus on the needs of CMS
GIOD is complementary to RD45 (http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/asd/cernlib/rd45)
- Focus on real prototype LHC codes with persistent objects
- Use large samples of simulated and reconstructed LHC events
- Emphasis on LAN and WAN networked ensembles of ODBMS-based systems
GIOD is a natural lead-in to more general studies of Regional Center models, such as the new MONARC project (Models of Networked Analysis at Regional Centres)
