Scale of the data:
- Amount of pre-compressed data
- Continuous transport of data
- Constant transport/recompute decisions
- Transparent access regardless of data location:
- Here, there, elsewhere
- In memory, on disk, on tape or other tertiary storage
Distributed database: Necessary for scientific, financial, sociological reasons
Performance and connectivity in the Wide Area Network (WAN): an irreducible problem
Duration of the experiments:
- Database and program codes will be developed throughout the lifetime of the experiments.
- There will be many developers, and many users.
- Calibrations are constantly being improved.
