For some reason the car had no license plate lights. Originally it would have had some on the rear bumper, but this has evidently been replaced at some point with one from a more recent TR6, which had license plate lights built into the overhang above the plate. I picked up a TR3 license plate light from Ebay, but it turned out to be too tall, and wouldn't fit. I ended up finding a nice BMW plate with built in lights at the side, from an early 70s model 2002 or 3.0CSi. This fits very well, and looks period correct at least:
